Shepherds Bible College

Edgewood Bible Church and Shepherds Bible College have established a partnership with the conviction that training for ministry can, and should, take place in the context of the local church, where local Pastors and godly leaders can serve as mentors to the students from their church. The mission of the Shepherds Bible College is to impact the world through providing higher education training in partnership with local churches to produce ministry leaders who:

  • have a solid understanding of Scripture and its teachings;
  • are able to interpret, apply, and communicate God's Word properly;
  • are spiritually mature and continuing to grow in Christ;
  • have developed skills for effective ministry; and
  • understand the culture in which they minister.
    Values
  • The Authority of Scripture

    The Bible is the final authority in all we do and teach. We hold to the historic, evangelical doctrines of the church. The Bible is the central part of the curriculum, and the foundation of all courses taught. It is vital that students learn proper interpretation for a lifetime of learning and ministering the Word.

    The Glory of God

    We seek to bring glory to God through personal integrity, and by striving for excellence in all we do, including maintaining high academic standards. The Bible is to be taught by spiritually mature teachers and should lead to transformed lives.

    The Centrality of the Local Church

    We partner with local churches as the primary "institution" for equipping leaders. We are committed to pastors being mentors to the students, believing training is to be IN ministry, not just for ministry. Our labors are for the benefit the church. It is the source of our workers and funds, and to whom we are responsible as good stewards.

    The Goal of Service

    The people of God are called to serve. A student is not fully prepared for ministry without developing certain practical skills necessary for ministry. Effective ministry also requires an understanding of the culture and times in which we serve.
    Curriculum Philosophy
  • Our curriculum is guided by a consideration of what it means to be prepared for ministry. There are four primary foundations for effective ministry:

    1. Ministry leaders need to know Scripture and how to study, interpret, and apply it. A major component of ministry is communicating the Word of God, whether formally or informally.
    2. Ministry leaders need to be transformed by the Word. Ministry involves not only teaching truth, but modeling it as well.
    3. Ministry leaders need to have skills to be able to effectively minister.
    4. Ministry leaders need to understand the people to whom they minister and the culture in which they serve.
